چکیده

Understanding the impact of human disturbance on breeding habitat selection endangered species is critical to improving their conservation. Blue-crowned Laughingthrush Pterorhinus courtoisi (Ménégaux, 1923) syn. Garrulax (Passeriformes: Leiotrichidae) an in China. To explore nesting and its response during period, we conducted a field survey at sites Wuyuan County Dexing City, Jiangxi Province, from March July 2021 June 2022. At home range scale (200 m) results principal component analysis (PCA) showed that this had clear preference for infrastructure construction, grassland, farmland bare land. microhabitat (12.26 m), compared ecological parameters nest plot control using Kruskal–Wallis H test found there were significant differences vegetation coverage, crown breadth, shrub herb maximum height, average height number area between two groups. Ensemble distribution models suitable covered 108.63 km2. Distance waterways, deciduous broadleaved forests roads main factors impacting Laughingthrush. Our study suggests (1) it highly important improve protection living areas close settlements preserve certain space period; (2) necessary continue monitor potential habitat. This provides scientific basis by local forestry bureaus conservation departments future.

Testing habitat copying in breeding habitat selection in a species adapted to variable environments

The habitat copying hypothesis states that animals use the reproductive performance of conspecifics to evaluate habitat quality and choose their future breeding site. We used data from Audouin’s Gull Larus audouinii (1992–2003), a species adapted to unpredictable environments, to analyse subcolony (as patch) choice within a colony (small spatial scale). We also assessed the suitability of alter...

Quantitative recommendations for amphibian terrestrial habitat conservation derived from habitat selection behavior.

Conservation scientists have noted that conservation managers rarely use scientific information when making decisions. One of the reasons why managers rarely use scientific information may be that conservation scientists rarely provide their knowledge in a way that can directly be used by conservation practitioners. Here we show how quantitative recommendations for conservation can be derived. ...

Terrestrial habitat requirements of nesting freshwater turtles

Because particular life history traits affect species vulnerability to development pressures, cross-species summaries of life history traits are useful for generating management guidelines. Conservation of aquatic turtles, many members of which are regionally or globally imperiled, requires knowing the extent of upland habitat used for nesting. Therefore, we compiled distances that nests and gr...

Multiscale Habitat Use and Selection in Cooperatively Breeding Micronesian Kingfishers

Information about the interaction between behavior and landscape resources is key to directing conservation management for endangered species. We studied multi-scale occurrence, habitat use, and selection in a cooperatively breeding population of Micronesian kingfishers (Todiramphus cinnamominus) on the island of Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. At the landscape level, point-transect su...

Nonideal breeding habitat selection: a mismatch between preference and fitness.

The selection of breeding sites in heterogeneous habitats should ideally be based on cues closely reflecting habitat quality and thus predicting realized individual fitness. Using long-term population data and data on territory establishment of male Northern Wheatears (Oenanthe oenanthe), we examined whether territory characteristics linked to individual fitness (reproductive performance and su...
